How to Wear Your Boyfriends Denim Shirt

So ladies here you have some inspiration how to wear a man's denim shirt. My favorite way to style a denim shirt is either with jeans (might be because I remember those days when I felt like a dork or wearing denim with denim), in a very masculine way, or even better with a super feminine skirt.

Here is one of my favorite outfits where I've pared up a sleeveless (straight, quite masculine) denim shirt with a pop of color and a print. The dot over the eye here I think is my vintage skinny belt I added to create a shape to the otherwise straight camo jacket.

Here is some other inspiration for how to wear a masculine denim shirt:

Could be the perfect thing to wear a relaxed sunday

I remember those days when we were told not to wear denim with denim. I'm so glad those days are gone!

The Return of The Denim Shirt

When you think of denim shirts the immediate image everyone gets are The Old Westerns. Cowboys made the denim shirt a staple in men’s fashion back in the ‘70's. Well, it is now making its way back in to the closets of American men.

One of the biggest appeals of the denim shirt is the durability. Just like the term “a good pair of jeans,” there is now going to be the term “a good denim shirt.” It becomes a staple in men’s fashion so quickly and effortlessly because of its classic look, feel, and accessibility. The denim shirt looks good on all body types, and can make any man look like he has good fashion sense. Just like many men can have one good pair of jeans in their closet, the denim shirt can become the same staple go to item. With simplicity and minimal effort like that, what man wouldn't want to add the denim shirt to his wardrobe collection (although most men probably wouldn't call their clothes their wardrobe).

There is a multitude of ways for the denim shirt to be worn, I’ll list off just a few for you. The classic look is the easiest, simply buttoned up; however, many men are now wearing the denim shirt as a means of layering, pairing it over a simple V-neck shirt. And, lastly, the denim shirt can now be seen in the office dressed up with a simple tie and jacket over, a more comfortable take on business attire.

With such versatility from one article of clothing what man isn't going to want to run to the nearest Ralph Lauren or Levi store to pick up his very own denim shirt (that is if we know what those stores are of course)!

"I'm with the band" Fashion Inspiration

Much of the influence for today's punk and grunge trends goes back to the alternative bands rising up in the 70s. These bands not only broke from the mainstream rock scene of music, but also distinguished their own style of fashion that was much more edgy compared the retro days and classic rock 'n' roll. A few of these cutting edge bands included the Ramones and Misfits.

Misfits (above), Ramones (below)

The Misfits were proponents of more of the punk trend with skull prints, black leather, spikes, and wild hairstyles. The Ramones may be classified as having more of the subdued rebel style, updated from the previous decade's "greaser style, donning leather jackets, faded jeans, and classic tees. With the resurgence of this trend, these bands' logo tees are also back on the racks and outfits are once again saying "I'm with the band."

For women, one of the more fashion forward ladies of the era was Deborah Harry, also known as Blondie. Some of her trends included bold printed dresses and tees, tall black boots, and denim mini skirts on occasion. Her fashions have inspired such artists in later decades as Madonna and Gwen Stefani, and many young women today take after her punkish style.

In the 90s, Nirvana was one of the front runners of the grunge trend, including baggy and layered clothing, distressed jeans, and unbuttoned flannels.

So this fall season, let out your inner rock star and create your own bold and unique fashion. You can take a twist on the retro era of bold colors and prints, fade to black in leather and spikes, or grunge down in baggy plaids and ripped jeans. Maybe you'll even take some tips from the cutting edge music scene of past decades, and then you can be 'with the band.'

16th Century Inspiration for Fall Fashion Trend

I want to share with you one of my biggest inspirations for this trends right now, which is the British court especially back in the 16th century. The clearest connection to that period we have is in Alexander McQueen’s collection which has a certain association with the Elizabethan era. But I want to go back one generation for my specific inspiration, to her father Henry VIII. A couple years ago the series the Tudors was on air, which tells the story about Henry VIIIs reign and especially tells about his many love affairs. My first reason for starting to watch this series was the man who plays Henry, Jonathan Rhys Meyers who is one of the most gorgeous men in the world I think, but as soon as I starting to watch it I immediately fell in love with all the costumes.

There is not many shows, except Sex and the City of course, that can capture their watchers with what the cast on the series are wearing. It has everything from crowns, amazingly embellished gowns to other amazing jewelry, especially rosaries that makes a non-Christian like myself to want to start believing just so I can walk around with such beautiful crosses. It is not a discrete trend at all, rather the opposite but isn’t that just what we need for the fall when everything seems colder and darker?

Even the men's costumes are amazing!

Do you want to seem more pictures that has a connection to the Tudors, or this trend? Then take a look at my Pinterest board with the title Religious and Fairytale Themes Fashion. I am constantly upgrading it with new inspiration, modern day and historical. I hope you’ll like it!

Punk, Rebel and Grunge

Another trend that has been showing up on the runways this fall is a revamp of the punk, rebel and grunge trends. This trend is full of plaids, leathers, and gleaming hardware to channel your inner rebel. Some of the front-runners on the runway include Versace, Chanel and Saint Laurent Paris.

Versace "Vunk"
Versace debuted their "Vunk" (Versace Punk) style this fall on the runway. Plaids and leathers are shaped to a feminine and sexy, yet edgy, look. Jewelry pieces with spikes, studs, and chains are used to accessorize and complete the look.

Chanel
Chanel's main ingredient for the punk style is leather- lots of leather. With punk, leather is never understated, and neither is black. This is a more subdued and sophisticated take on the punk look.

Saint Laurent Paris put a spotlight on the grunge trend this fall. This style focuses less on the bling of the spikes and studs, and more on layering and distressing details. The plaids and leathers of the punk style are layered with florals and neutral solids. The grunge also pulls from a more muted pallet rather than some of the bolder colors of the punk style.

This trend has a little bit of something for everyone, and I hope it has you interested in learning more. Stay tuned!

Royal, Religious and Once Upon a Time

One of the trends we will be talking about is a trend that can seem a little bit over the top and derives from shows like Alexander McQueen, a show that the critic Tim Blanks said to have "its focus on the humble piety of Low Church Anglicans". Another show I find especially interesting is Dolce & Gabbana's, which was inspired by famous golden Byzantine mosaics from the Cathedral of Monreale on Sicily, according to Nicole Phelps. One show that has pieces that takes another path but still makes a fairytale statement is Oscar de la Renta who both had dresses worthy of a princess and capes that makes one think of the little red riding hood. Dramatic and fabulous!
